Memories feat. Marcel
Memories feat. Marcel
Rocco [City Deep Music]
20 September, 2007 | 2.14PMParisian dude Rocco’s second release through City Deep Music
maintains the caliber of his fellow countryman Franck Roger’s recent effort for the label, choosing a foray into deep, late night territory on this occasion.
‘Memories’ has something of a spiritual quality to it, not only due to the gospel like spoken passages of Marcel, but the deep, reverberated tones of the chords and strings also.
Heavy kicks and dank bass notes pitch in to complete an exquisite vibe and atmosphere that is not cluttered by percussion or any other unnecessary elements.
Martino’s Mix is the antithesis of the ‘Main’ in terms of the drums, beginning like a percussionist in a church hall.
A bubbling synth snakes its way between the beats and hits, providing the version’s main melodic expansion.
Although the vocals are largely maintained, the vibe has a sort of epic urgency this time around.
The Trinidadianital Mix has a more vibrant, colorful feel than the other two, which doesn’t seem lend itself to the vocals quite as effectively.
Once again the percussion range is full and the synth lines go places, but it’s the happy vibe that loses what was so marvelous about the Main Mix and to a lesser extent the Martino Mix.
