Trickski and Solomun [Sonar Kollekt...
13 December, 2007 | 3.30PM- Section: Music Reviews
Berlin-based, DJ duo Trickski (aka Yannick Labbe and Daniel Becker) count Carl Craig as one of their fondest admirers.
The Detroit legend’s feelings towards the pair are readily made clear by this, and any one of the Members Of Trick releases you care to mention.
Solomun, boss of the super-hot DIYnamic label, joins them on this occasion for an excursion into the deeper reaches of the house music genre.
Trickski’s ‘Lost Tape’ is almost certainly the lightest musical shade of the four cuts on offer here.
A playful bass-riff shapes up nicely alongside a woody organ lead-sound and a careful selection of sensuous strings.
‘Lost Dub’ is a to the point and instantly more clubby version of the above, adding bursts of live drumming and losing the strings as it goes.
Solomun’s ‘Black Rose’ is as dark as the title implies.
Atmospheric synth groans are heavily fortified with dense reverb, creating a murky and intense affair.
An analogue synth bleep is fed through what sounds like a guitar-amp, spitting out the track’s main melodic focal point.
Again, a dub of sorts is included in the form of ‘White Rose’ that does much the same, only in a more stripped down manner.
Bona fide, deep house shenanigans once again from the Members of the Trick and Sonar Kollektiv.
