Melt Festival: Pan/Tone’s Survival Guide 101

Beatport caught up with Pan/Tone, an artist who played at Melt Festival several years previously, and truly a veteran of the Melt Festival to share his festival survival tips with us.
Last year Pan/Tone played in his project Cereal/Killers along with Jake Fairley, Ada, and Metope.
Pan/Tone’s sound has often been associated with ‘rockno’ - a fusion between indie rock and techno.
He’s got unique tracks out on great minimal techno labels such as Sub Static, Sender, Trapez, and he continues to produce music today. His forthcoming album called ‘Skip the Foreplay’ will be coming out on September 12th on the Cereal/Killers label, distributed via Kompakt and Beatport for digital release.
Over his festival years, and through trial and error Pan/Tone learned about how to handle these festivals.
This year he did everything right.
Pan/Tone’s festival survival guide:
1. Whether you’re an artist or not you need to be well equipped and live it up as best as you can in festival life.

2. Know how to get there and back – transportation to and from the festival is important. If it’s in a remote village, know your schedule for when the shuttles leave and arrive.
3. Make sure you have accommodation sorted out in advance so that you are satisfied with where and who you’ll be staying.
4. Know which performers you want to hear and stay put because sometimes you can get lost and miss the act that you want to see.

5. Expect delays and time slot changes for the artist line-up. Go with it, and have fun.
6. If you need to get backstage or into a restricted area, know the types of passes there are and find out if you can get the right one.
(Example: All area, artist pass, press pass, wrist bands – friend, VIP, etc.)
7. Find an artist who is your friend and stay with them to get you into places and introduce you to people you want to meet.
If you don’t have an artist friend, you may be able to make one by hanging out around the bar and stage areas.
Good luck!
