M.C. Shy-D releases ‘Greatest Hits’

When peeps think of Atlanta these days, the first thing that may come to mind is crunk and the dirty south, with a BPM in the 60- to 80-range.

Yet there was a time when that tempo never dropped below 120 BPM and actually, the new sound of the South is basically the old sound in half time.

In Miami it seems that emcees are taking it back up-tempo again with their new south music.

To get you up on game on the old school ATL south music, I recommend picking up M.C. Shy-D ‘Greatest Hits’ on Beatsource.

This dude is a pioneer in his city of Atlanta and one of the first cats to make ATL the place to be and the joint ‘Atlanta --That’s Where I Stay’ lets you know why.

So before Jermaine Dupri made the record ‘Welcome to Atlanta’ with Ludacris, M.C. Shy-D welcomed you to his city in 1987.

Even though he repped ATL, he was signed to Luke Skywalker Records based out of Miami, which was owned by Uncle Luke, formerly of 2 Live Crew.

One of the most popular joints from M.C. Shy-D was ‘Shake it’, maybe due to the rock guitar in the song.

Run DMC had success already with ‘Rock Box’ crossing over to rockers in the 1980s.

Plus, M.C. Shy-D’s ‘Shake It’ is talking about booty, so how could you go wrong?

DJs, you need the M.C.Shy-D ‘Greatest Hits’ record—it’s a must for your old school collection.

Some other favorites on the record you need to check out include ‘Gotta Be Tough’, which samples the old school 1970s group Earth, Wind and Fire, and ‘I Don’t Want To Treat You Wrong’, where M.C. Shy-D gets his LL Cool J ‘I Need Love’ slow song on.

On that joint he is one of the first to sample the Isley Brothers’ ‘Between The Sheets’ way before Notorious B.I.G. on ‘Big Poppa’ in 1994.

Don’t sleep on this release!
