Mount Kimbie [Hotflush Recordings]

Mount Kimbie were included in the handful of artists selected by Beatportal as ones to watch in 2009, and this, their debut release on Hotflush Recordings [l] is a clear indication as to why they were chosen.

With an extended intro consisting of nothing more than reverberated guitars, the 2 step kick shuffle kicks in at around 1:30, with added claps, clicks and sublime child like vocal snippets thrown in.

This really is like nothing you’ve heard before, to categorise this simply as dubstep would be creating a massive injustice to the music; one could only come near by describing the sound as emotive, 2-step, vocal electronica.

The Burial [a] analogy can and has been used as an aid to epitomize the track, and although comparisons can be made, Mount Kimbie is far more disparate and a far cry from the homogenous garage sound of the Mercury Award nominated Hyperdub [l] artist.

The blissful sounds made by these budding young London-based producers is a refreshing combination of their jazz and experimental influences, and another great highlight of the forward moving direction from the Hotflush camp.
