Max Fader ‘Debut EP’

Max Fader ‘Debut EP’

The fourth installement of Metroline Limited [l] releases is now available to download from Beatport.

French guy Max Fader [a] delivers an EP full of funk and quirky, bleepy madness.

Following solid releases on Noise-Joy and Multi Vitamins, Max Fader releases his much-anticipated debut EP, the helpfully titled Debut EP, on Metroline.

The EP kicks off with the awesome “Too Much Complicated”, a track that layers sweeps of deep digital feedback and crisp percussion over heavy subs. The lead synth sits nicely in the background before breaking out into an infectious melody that brings an immediate smile to your face.

“Sonar+Sonar extended rom” is a level deeper. A speaker-bothering dub bassline drives the track forward, leaving it to the high end percussion to maintain the track’s structure. Dark, paranoid and beguiling.

“Jazz studies” takes its inspiration from the complex, frenetic rhythms of bebop. Cymbals slip and slide around thumping kicks, crash and rides ping of each other giving the track a nice fluidity, and simple chiptune-style synths bubble away in the background. Nice… as Louis Balfour might say.

“Fourth song” bring an electro flavour to the EP. Structurally, this is the most interesting track here. A really solid groove underpins the track, while the other elements slip in and out of time, creating a slightly uneasy feeling. Thankfully, that unease is perfectly counterbalanced by a simple melody that evolves throughout the track into an intricate and addictive tune.

Max Fader was born in Normandy, France in 1978. He started listening electronic music in 1993, when he was introduced to producers like LFO and A Guy Called Gerald. It was hearing Sven Vath’s “An accident in paradise” for the first time that really confirmed his love of techno.

He bought decks and mixer when he was fifteen, and by 2000 he had started teaching himself to use cubase. Describing himself as “a good geek”, he’s always tried to make the most of new technology, and the release of Final Scratch allowed him to start playing his own tracks out… and they’ve gone down very well.

His first solo release, “4hours” on Multi Vitamins sold out on in three days.

La musique ne doit pas se laisser écouter, mais elle doit s’imposer par elle-même.

(Music shouldn’t be listened to, the music itself must make you listen.)
