Mauro Picotto Interview - ‘Now & Then’ Album & ‘Live On Tour’ DVD OUT NOW!!!

The Lizard Man, Mauro Picotto returns to Media Records on brand new imprint SWrecords with a killer new artist album and live on tour DVD! The Top 10 International DJ, million selling artist & founder of the huge Meganite events unleashes exclusive new tracks hot from the studio alongside some of his biggest club anthems of all time on Now & Then mixed live by Mauro himself!

And here’s what the man himself has to say ...

Q) Your music has gone alot more ‘underground’ since your big chart tunes like Lizzard, Komodo, Lethal Industry etc. Why is that? Do you now dislike the trancier side of dance music?
A) My move from trance to a more underground sound came when I felt I was no longer getting emotion coming from Trance productions. Today I can say the quality of music is getting better and I’m starting to enjoy quality melodies again.

Q) Is it true those funny green headphones were custom made for you by Sony?
A) No they are custom made by a friend of mine.

Q) Had you not got into production and DJing, what do you think you would liked to have done instead?
A) I’d probably be working with by brothers in our family business.

Q) Premade percussion loops. Good or bad? If good, do you use them?
A) I have used them a lot in the past, but lately I prefer to create things from scratch.

Q) Why don’t you make hard/industrial techno anymore?
A) I felt the need of melody again so it was time to change.

Q) Tell us how you developed your Meganite sound?
A) My sound is the result of a natural evolution I felt inside me.

Q) Do you see yourself taking the Meganite brand into more countries?
A) Yes there are plans on exporting the Meganite sound into more countries around the world, including the Greek island Mykonos next year.

Q) If Techno was a food, what would it taste like?
A) It would taste like sushi.

Q) What were your thought processes when you collaborated with Mario Piu and made Arabian Pleasure?
A) I’m very happy to have been part of this project and I enjoyed that time. It was plenty of fun to produce with that style.

Q) What is the Techno scene like in Italy? What country would you say its at its strongest at the moment?
A) There is a good scene in italy, especially in Turin where there are numerous events like “Club to Club” festival in November. I feel South America at the moment has the best parties thanks to the people who are there to party and don’t worry about anything else.

Q) How does Italian techno differ to UK techno?
A) The first thing that comes to my mind is the difference in BPM. In Italy, generally speaking, the beats are slower (126-132bpm) and we simply call it electronic music, which includes all genres.

Q) Do you ever just wish that people would stop with the usual questions about your music and background etc and look at your webpage instead - that way in interviews they could just ask random stuff about what you like and dislike instead?
A) Good point but in honesty I don’t mind answering questions regarding my past. Each moment of my career was important and helped me getting where I am today.

Q) What question would you like to answer that you never get asked?
A) Exactly your question, and I wouldn’t know what to answer J

Q) What do you think of a hard trance producer (P.H.A.T.T) remixing your classic CRW track ‘I Feel Love’, or do you feel some classics should be left well alone ?
A) I am always very open to other people trying remixes. Sometimes the results are not what you expect, but you have to give it a try. In this case I think they did a good job.

Q) Where do you get your ideas and inspiration from?
A) From anything around me, any moment of my life can give me inspiration.

Q) Is there a tune or music that would make you walk off the dance floor?
A) Any music without soul.

Q) How come you decided to make a DVD?
A) To celebrate my 20 year of Djing I thought it would be nice to give something different to my fans. The DVD contains images from my recent tours and shows the life of a DJ both on and off the stage. It gives an insight to the life of a DJ with its high and low moments, and shows some beautiful places and parties in North and South America.

Q) What can we expect from your new artist album?
A) The album contains tracks that cover a wide range of styles, from more underground to melodic to some classics I never released in the UK before.

Q) How would you describe your current sound?
A) I always consider my sound to be a good mix of energy and emotion.

Q) What have been your career highlights?
A) There have been so many amazing experiences during my career so it is quite hard to pick one. I could say the release of Lizard is what gave me international fame and the rest is history.

Q) What has been your highlight of 2007?
A) The release of my new album “Now & Then” and the singles “Evribadi” and “Maybe, Maybe Not”. Also the fourth season of Meganite Ibiza has been amazing so far.

NOW & THEN
After many years spending half his life producing & A&Ring BXR Records at the Media Records studio complex in Brescia, Italy and half DJing every weekend, Mauro Picotto decided in 2003 to dedicate his energies almost totally to his DJ career. Since then he is one of those DJs who spends his life on planes travelling the world playing at festivals and mega clubs. Unlike many DJs, Mauro has concentrated on performing at his own Meganite branded events and parties in London, Miami, Turin, Glasgow, New York, Montreal and every Wednesday at Priviledge in Ibiza. Mauro describes these nights as “electronic music lifestyle” and frequently plays much of his own music designed specifically for the mood & energy of these nights. If anyone were to judge what they may hear at these nights by records Mauro made in the late 90s they would be very far off the mark. Mauro’s sound now is a fusion of funky minimal with the techy edge and melodic elements that were always his trademark sound. Mauro is back in the studio with renewed energy and 2007 sees the release of an album Mauro Picotto ‘Now & Then’, a DVD Mauro Picotto ‘Live On Tour’ and singles taken from the album all on the brand new imprint SWrecords (so called as he is spending time in Battersea in South West London, also the home of Media Records UK). This is a fresh and exciting new chapter in Mauro’s incredible career.

LIVE ON TOUR
Mauro Picotto gets on the red eye and sets out on his tour of the Americas. Taking him to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Colombia, Puerto Rico & Caracas Venezuela, Mauro steps into a world where other DJs rarely tread. They love him for going, they love his brand of groovy full on electronic music lifestyle and turn up in their thousands to dance and show their appreciation. DJing in the Jungle with beautiful babes is exotic. Playing in sports stadiums is totally crazy. Mauro shows all the glamour and the grime of an international DJ superstar. Also included are additional promo videos and extras from Ibiza, Turin, Love Parade, Miami WMC & Sensation Amsterdam. This is a rare insight into a DJ traveling and playing the globe. Bonus features include the music videos for the 2 hottest singles off the album ‘Evribadi’ & ‘Maybe, Maybe Not’
