Martyn prepares new album ‘Great Lengths’
2 February, 2009 | 5.17PMIf there’s one person to be keeping an eye on at the moment it is the ever productive Dutch dubstepper Martyn
.
With much anticipation surrounding Martyn’s forthcoming debut album ‘Great Expectations’ on his own imprint 3024
within the next month, two forthcoming album launch parties are planned for London and Berlin.
Joining Martyn for the London date at Plastic People on February 8th will be Kode 9
and D-Bridge
(who features on the new album), whilst in Berlin there will be a greater techno presence as Martyn will be joined by Marcel Dettman, Scuba
and Kode 9 at the Arena club on February 11th.
Beatportal was privileged enough to have an advanced preview of the album and all we can say is that the music lives up to its release title, and is worth the hype we’ve credited to Martyn over the past 12 months.
Comprising of 14 tracks that are solely ‘Martyn Music’ (a term he designated himself to best describe the hybrid nature of dubstep, techno and everything else that his music consists of), the album is largely upbeat, packed full of 2–step rhythms, sub bass, vocal tracks and a guest appearance from The Spaceape.
Standout tracks include ‘These Words’, a beautifully crafted vocal number featuring Bad Company’s D-Bridge, whilst ‘Elden Street’ leans towards his tech house side, consisting of a huge 4/4 beat with the lead pattern from previous release ‘Suburbia’ melded into the sub textures.
As if that wasn’t enough, Martyn’s remix of Shed’s ‘Another Wedged Chicken’ will be released within the next month on Ostgut Ton
with a Surgeon
remix on the flip side.
