Beatport Live presents Martin Landsky

Poker Flat’s Martin Landsky dropped by Beatport’s Berlin headquarters last night and treated us to two killer hours of tight tech house, Detroit-style techno and deep, moody grooves.

If you didn’t catch it live, don’t worry: we’ve archived the session. Just click “keep reading” to listen and watch the whole thing, and check out more Beatport Ustream sessions—including sets from Cosmin TRG, Agaric, and Dean Driscollhere.

Don’t miss his new single ”Morning Caffeine” on Mobilee.

Video streaming by Ustream

Thanks for stopping by Beatport to play for us! What’s it like to play in the Beatport booth, and have you done other live Internet mixes like this?

Yes quite a few, at internet radios all over the world and also in these underground radio stations from the pre-internet area… What I like about the internet streaming is the video involved, the people don’t just listen but they are able to see what’s happening, so they can get a bit more into the vibe…

I really enjoyed playing here, it’s a very relaxed situation here and I got some people, too. That’s important… Imagine being left alone in a small room for hours, that could be a bit boring!

Could you tell us a little about your track selection today? How did you pick out tracks for the mix, and what tunes are you particularly feeling right now?

No rocket science here, I just grabbed my bag with the records in I recently play out… I like this kind of DJ sets, because it reflects what I am doing in the clubs, I think the listeners will get more connected that way. I mean, I could do this rock ‘n’ roll extra super special weirdo music set here too, but then I think it’s more important to give new listeners an idea what’s happening in the clubs, and the followers get more connected by remembering certain tracks they were dancing to on my parties....

So this set was pretty much reflecting the opening of my DJ sets, that’s the way I slowly start to get in the night before setting the roof on fire!

Are there any upfront, unreleased tracks you played that we should be keeping our eyes open for?

Yeah, quite a bunch I think… My one and only favorite track at the moment just got released on vinyl and will be released digitally soon… It’s the Ame remix of Osunlade’s “Envision” on Innervisions… Phew, heavy one…

I also played two tracks off the forthcoming album by Rodriguez Jr. on Mobilee, the whole album is top notch, don’t dare to miss that!

Then there’s this Carl Craig remix of Catz ‘n Dogz on Mothership, phew....big one… It’s just out on vinyl but digital release will be after the summer.

I played the new Andrade on Overall Music, which is definitely a label to watch out for. It’s the new and hot deep house scene from Gran Canarias.

And, yeah, there’s this guy DJ Soch, who is releasing some great tunes right now. I played his new record on EXX, which should be out soon, too....

What’s your DJ setup like? Do you play with Traktor, Serato, Ableton, CDJs, or something else?

Just recently I switched over to CD-only. I am trying it out for like three months now, and I’m getting used to it… I was always a vinyl guy but the circumstances have me playing more and more digital media, and after trying different systems I decided to play CDs. I am in front of the computer all day long, so on weekends I try to do something different, try to stay away from the screen, and therefore CDs seem to be the best option....

I also print out stickers for every CD I have, with cover artwork, and one CD is one release only, not these 20 tracks on one CD compilation marked as “house #5” or something like that. That’s some serious work, but in the end it works for me, because I keep that going through your records and remembering tracks by colors and artwork vibe, from the old days…

For listeners who want to check you out in person, could you tell us about any club residencies you may have, and where you’ll be touring next?

I do not have any residencies, but I do come back to certain cities on regular basis… Next up is the Baalsaal in my hometown, Hamburg, which is always great. Then early August there’s a little tour starting off in Panama City, then Mexico and finishing off at the Link in Miami. Really looking forward to it. Next Berlin gig is August 26th at Panorama Bar…

For all upcoming gigs and details please feel free to check my website, Facebook, etc....

Thanks again for the music, Martin!

Thank you very much, I hope you enjoyed it as I did and hope to see you soon, somewhere out there..... Love & peace.
