Marrakesh / Snail Trail
Marrakesh / Snail Trail
Shimon, Gimble, Corrupt Souls, NC 1...
16 August, 2007 | 2.29PMThis is the kind of drum & bass that jungle-heads will salivate over.
Well, in actual fact, anyone who claims to like D&B will get sticky over this if they hear it on a hench sound system.
In ‘Marrakesh’, expect huge, bumbling (and oh-so-slightly distorted) sine waves that plunge downwards a few semitones after their initial transients, that sound like they came straight from ‘Lords Of The Null Lines’ the Foul Play remix.
These are backed up by mouth-watering drums that could only derive from years of experience, producing A-grade records with Ant Miles and Andy C.
Also keep your lugs pricked for some expertly-chosen ethnic vocal samples; some drifting, happy stabs and a few automated, filtered synth tricks.
Better still, on the intro and breakdown of ‘Marrakesh’ you are treated to a fantastically-woven guitar and choir combo that will have E-heads hugging the nearest sweaty raver.
‘Snail Trail’ sound nothing remotely like ‘Marrakesh’.
It’s a dark, stinking roller from hell, with a touch of tech-funk and all sorts of distorted wailings and stabs.
It’s pretty good but not capable of setting dancefloors ablaze.
If the crowd are in the right mood though, they’ll still enjoy it.
