Marlon D ‘Jesus Creates Sound’: Single of the Week
15 October, 2007 | 1.25AMWith its chunky driving house rhythms, big tribal drums and cool vocal FX Marlon D’s ‘Jesus Creates Sound’ is Beatportal’s Single of the Week. Strictly Rhythm
have once again proven they haven’t lost their skill for finding quality house music.
Beatportal caught up with producer Marlon D in New York to find out more about ‘Jesus Creates Sound’, taken from his recent EP ‘Underground Collective EP Vol.1’.
‘Jesus Creates Sound’ is drum-tastic. Are the drums back in house music?
I think a great house record starts with the perfect beats. Without the right groove and drum sounds more than likely it’s not going to work out. Plus, most importantly drums moves the crowd.
So where do your drum sounds come from?
I usually create them or I sample them.
How do you create them?
Well right now in my studio I am running ProTools LE 6.4 with a Digi 001 soundcard. Then I’m using Reason and Recycle on a Dual 867 Mac. I’ve also got various synths lying around handy.
So how did ‘Jesus Creates Sound’ become a whole track?
I had been working on a few other records prior to it and I got tired of hearing them.
So one day I decided to pull up Reason and start writing out of nowhere.
I started the record at 1pm and had finished the entire record by 4pm.
It was just one of those records that fell into place and came naturally.
Jesus was definitely by my side that day, hence the name ‘Jesus Creates Sound’.
If Jesus could give you any piece of studio kit, what would you want?
I would like an Avalon VT-737sp mic preamp to record vocals and instruments.
What’s your favourite synth currently?
My favorite synth right now is in Reason 4.0 and it’s called Thor. I will be using it for lots of my future projects.
