Mark Knight reveals Pacha NYC residency

British DJ and producer Mark Knight today announced the launch of a new Toolroom Knights residency at Pacha nightclub in New York, with the launch party penned for Friday 27th February.

Every two months the boss of Toolroom will take over the venue on west 46th Street for seven hours, and deliver a lengthy journey into sound, a style that he has perfected whilst DJing for the last four years at Ministry of Sound in London.

“Having played there [Pacha] in 2008 I fell in love with the place - the soundsystem, the vibe, the people. I felt totally at home,” explained Mark.

“I made my mind up that 2009 would be the year to bring the sound of Toolroom Knights to the states, and Pacha seemed the perfect place to start building. I’ve always been fascinated by the legacy of New York clubbing, the way it was structured around one DJ and one journey all night long.

“From way back at Studio 54 with Larry Levan to Tenaglia and Vasquez, and the legendary Sound Factory to Sasha & Digweed, but there seemed to be a hole in this legacy, so I thought it was time someone new stepped in and kept things moving.”

Mark was eventually persuaded by none other than DJ Sasha to go for the Pacha spot, after he spoke to the New York-based British superstar whilst playing at Space in Ibiza last summer.

Speaking about his sets, Knight admitted, “Without sounding clichéd, I really want people to be sucked into the musical journey. I want to paint a Mark Knight musical picture, starting deep and then move through styles before ending up at techno.

“Obviously it will be very much the sound of Toolroom with loads of exclusive tracks and edits. I want it to be a night for heads and people who are passionate about music. But most importantly I want it have an overriding feeling of fun. The last thing it’s going to be is anal!”
