Manual Music releases Roy Avni tribute
24 March, 2011 | 8.16AMWhen Roy Avni passed away last year after a six-year battle with cancer, he left an enormous hole in the heart of the Netherlands’ club scene. The founder of Electronation, a tireless party promoter, and radio DJ, Avni “was one of the most influential people in the Dutch dance scene throughout the past decade,” according to Manual Music’s Paul Hazendonk
. “Above all, he inspired many with his never-ending energy and impressive creativity. He was involved in every possible festival and think tank, as his ideas were just so out of the ordinary,” added Mason
.
Dave Clarke
even recorded a special tribute to Avni, featuring material from his label, his favorite songs, interview snippets with the man himself, and an unreleased track by Avni, found on his SoundCloud account. Now, that track, “Horz,” is finally getting a proper release on Manual Music
.
“One of the last things Roy wanted to do before he passed away was to produce a record,” says Hazendonk, “as that’s been one of the very few aspects of music industry he wasn’t involved in until then. He had this cowboy idea of doing a track with horses, and with the help of his close friends Mason
he was able to finish this two weeks before he died. Of course the people close to Roy were all playing his track, but we all waited a bit before releasing it, and now the time felt right for his ”Horz” EP.”
The record is out now in an original version and a dub version, plus a remix from Hazendonk and Luke Mandala
; a future release will feature additional remixes from Marc Romboy
, Rodriguez Jr.
, and Terry Toner
. In a fitting tribute to their friend, Manual Music are donating all proceeds from the sale of the record to the charity fight cancer.
