Madison Park readies brand new CD “Another Yesterday”

Madison Park’s DeAnna and James Cool know something that confounds most other dance music producers on the scene today.

That is, how to make a proper club track that isn’t mere 4/4 beats and rhythms, but rather, actual songs.

Throughout their history, Madison Park [a] and its home label Basic Lux Recordings have successfully blurred the line between intelligent pop and dance music.

With each subsequent release (Madison Park previously released 2004’s Boutique and 2006’s In The Stars) this Atlanta team only gets stronger; filling a large void in an otherwise empty and soulless dance music genre. If you believe in the cliché “third time’s a charm,” then Madison Park’s new CD Another Yesterday is the diamond in the rough of dance music.

From the first note of the opening title track, it’s clear to see that DeAnna Cool is in charge here. James’ slickly produced drums and basslines melt together with DeAnna’s vocals. The hook is perfect pop and DeAnna knows just how to hold back and give the song a vocal it deserves without a hint of bombast. “Miles Away” takes DeAnna’s vocals in another direction for a sound that’s very reminiscent of indie darlings The Cardigans; and that’s a very good thing. It’s a smooth, comforting and irresistibly cool. Lead single “Come Out And Play” is all about contrasts. The track starts with a powerful Knight Rider-esque bassline before a slab of soul and disco strings come into play. DeAnna once again brings a unique spin to the track, offering a vocal that falls somewhere between Madonna and Tracey Thorn.

Roxy Music is one of Madison Park’s greatest influences and in 2005 their basicLUX records released a wonderful remix album entitled Roxy Re-Modeled. Executive Produced by DeAnna and James Cool, the compilation featured remixes from a number of internationally acclaimed artists. However, the standout track was Madison Park’s own re-imagination of “More Than This,” amongst Another Yesterday’s 14 tracks is a brand new mix of the song that was never before released.  “More Than This” became a Billboard chart success on both the Hot Dance chart and the Dance Singles chart, entering as The Hot Shot Debut and growing steadily, crossing pop boundaries where dance singles often remain strictly in the dance world. As the music industry continues to grown and changes at an unprecedented rate, licensing for film and television has never been more crucial. Madison Park is a favorite of Hollywood music supervisors and recently their music has appeared in the soundtrack to the hit film Sex In the City and Showtime’s Nip / Tuck, among others.

While music is at the crux of what Madison Park does best, both DeAnna and James are active in socially conscious projects that support a “Green” lifestyle. A trained filmmaker, James is currently producing and directing a full length documentary on the Fresh Water Crisis in America titled “Tapped Out”. The film takes a critical look at the problems facing large metro areas, starting with the drought situations in the SE (Atlanta) and SW (Las Vegas, LA) and explores the causes, effects, long-term implications and what’s being done about it. DeAnna is the co-founder of Saving Opus One (SOO); a project to expose the plight of animals subjected to factory farming, which has a huge negative impact on the planet. SOO recently went beyond educating people about factory farming by producing clever vegan products and making them available to the public. SOO’s first product, SoyGo, a travel-sized soy creamer, hits shelves November of 2008.
