Made to Play play it digital
2 June, 2008 | 7.25PMOne of house music’s most resolutely vinyl-only labels is finally going digital.
Made to Play, the imprint fronted by Berlin transplant and British house producer and DJ Jesse Rose, has been instrumental in updating house music for the naughties.
Checked by a diverse range of names from DJ T to Switch, Claude VonStroke to Luciano, its ethos for putting out records has been pretty simple - sign futuristic jacking house and then ship a limited number straight to the shops in vinyl format only.
No blabbering advertising, no media bullshit, just a large slab of black plastic shifting from record shops quicktime and making its offerings highly sought after.
But times are changing and now the label has finally made its first step into the world of digital downloads.
The move has been much anticipated by fans of the label unable to track down rare copies of the original vinyl releases.
The first digital outing for Made to Play is a singles compilation called ‘Playing Around’.
Delivered in unmixed format it’s a touch for DJs who missed out on the first round of vinyl releases.
The second CD is a jacking mix of futuristic funk by Jesse’s up and coming protégé Oliver $.
