Terence Fixmer [Electric Deluxe]
22 April, 2009 | 2.14PMAs Dutch techno pioneer Speedy J
explains, the music of France’s Terence Fixmer
is a fusion between “industrial, techno, minimal and EBM”, as proven by his new ‘Machine’ EP on Speedy’s Electric Deluxe. It’s raw and radical techno, right from the bleeding edge of the machine world, and it’ll scare the bejesus out of most people.
For more than 10 years Fixmer has been flying the flag for dark electronic music, with his groundbreaking work on DJ Hell’s Gigolo having spearheaded a new style of modern techno that owed much to Nitzer Ebb, whose singer McCarthy was touring with Fixmer last summer.
‘Machine’ sounds like the kind of music the sentinels from The Matrix would get down to when they’re not terrorizing humans, with its bleep ridden structure pushing the sonic envelope far and wide. It scans the entire frequency range like a search light attempting to locate the last vestiges of hertz.
Heard on a loud soundsystem, the effect would be devastating, a unparalleled barrage of electronic noise that would consume you.
Speedy J’s Rez remix is equally as impressive, and builds up and deconstructs multiple times in a fluid like motion to create a cataclysmic techno tunnel.
Terence Fixmer also offers his ‘6AM Dub’, a bass driven, kick drum prone track that beats with drone regularity.
There aren’t many artists that are making this type of revolutionary techno that’s still danceable, and most of them seem to be on Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe.
