Luciano’s Cadenza returns from hibernation
Luciano’s Cadenza returns from hibernation
13 March, 2009 | 12.34PMLuciano’s highly respected Cadenza
record imprint is back after months of hibernation. The label has a string of releases planned from cutting edge artists for the coming weeks, including Argenis Brito
, Michel Cleis
& Salvatore Freda
and Ernesto Ferreyra
.
But in typical form, Cadenza are only teasing the releases at this time as 12” vinyl singles, but they should hopefully see the digital light of day at some point (Cadenza certainly understand the promotional benefits of limited vinyl pressings).
We’ve embedded previews of some of the best tracks after the jump, and are now praying that they make it onto Beatport someday.
Digitaline ‘Tapadaka’

After a string of celebrated Cadenza releases, Swiss duo Laurent Bovey and Gregory Poncet aka Digitaline
have gone on to produce a number of wonky minimal cuts on labels like Mo’s Ferry and gs-zurich
, but under the watchful eye of Luciano, the pair return to his imprint with a two-tracker of finely crafted deep tech house numbers. ‘Tapadaka’ is a slow-burning, anticipation-building bongo house groove, whilst ‘Strippy Trippy’ is a stripped back house loop that features plenty of dripping water FX and general sonic weirdness.
Michel Cleis & Salvatore Freda ‘Collivo’

More Lausanne locals, Michel Cleis and Salvatore Freda team up for a sexy house two-tracker that’s dripping with “mincer” dancing opportunities (if you’ve ever seen Luciano, Raresh or Ricardo Villalobos play, you’ll know the dance). ‘Sassicaia’ is a subtle bass-heavy deep house number full of percussive elements, but the MVT (most valuable tool) award goes to ‘Collivo’ for its superb horizontal synth line that creates dancefloor tension whilst bongo loops rattle all around it like a hypnotic tribal gathering.
Argenis Brito ‘Lolipop’

Former Venezuelan singer/band member Argenis Brito returns to Cadenza after his 2007 offering ‘Micro Mundo’, this time serving a four track EP of understated minimal house grooves that are full of competent swing. ‘Lolipop’ stands out from the bunch with its electro breakbeat structure that somehow still manages to retain the precision, minimal house aesthetic of the label on a broken bed of beats.
