Luciano and Loco Dice to form new live project

Following their semi-regular DJ tag team pairings as ‘Luci & Loco’, two titans of techno and house are planning to work together on a new live project, Beatportal can exclusively reveal.

During a chat with Luciano prior to his gig at Raum during Sonar Week, we got to talking about his sorely missed live PAs - you can read what he had to say after the jump.

So how did the idea of you two playing together originally come about?

We met at DC10, he was there a long time ago as Timo Maas‘ tour manager.

He was a cool guy—young, so we met slowly.

One day we decided to go back to back, and it worked really well—we both got on together.

I think we were both young artists, kinda new, not like the old school guys, you know?

We really enjoy playing together and we always have fun, which is really important.

If it’s good, back-to-back can really rock the party.

If it’s bad, it can ruin it!

So we said, “OK, this is going well, let’s do something properly.”

And next year, we are doing something bigger.

Can you tell me more about that?

We are talking about something new and fresh that we want to bring in.

So we’re developing a new project that we will do next year.

I can’t say too much now, but it will be like somewhere between a live concert and a DJ set featuring both of us.

Why did you stop playing live PAs in favour of just DJing?

The reason I stopped is because I’m tired of my music.

I was playing my own stuff every weekend, and although I was changing the music a little bit each show, you can only change so much.

After three years, I got bored - I bet you would too!

I love what I do, I love the music I do, but I felt I was saturating it, repeating myself.

You get to a point where you think you’re not creative anymore.

With DJing, you can get bored of the social or business side, but there’s always new music.

That’s what’s important to me - that I don’t get tired of the music I play.
