Loop De Mer
Loop De Mer
Anja Schneider [Mobilee Records]
26 August, 2007 | 3.57PMSebo K may be embarking on an increasingly house-orientated journey these days, but his Mobilee cohort Anja Schneider
still seems to have plenty of time for dark, tripped out techno of the highest order.
Working here with Bpitch hotshot Paul Brtschitsch, ‘Loop de Mer’ is a throbbing, rough-edged beast of a track, whereby an infinitely drifting, triplet-time percussion riff drags itself out over a tugging one-note bassline with haunting, menacing flair.
Like lots of minimal stuff right now, it works little tribal flickers into the groove, imbuing it with that ‘club at the end of the world’ feel that nihilistic techno lovers revel in.
The Loco Dice-like pings of b-side ‘Belize’ take a different route to the heart of the dancefloor, as melodic slivers cascade effervescently over a reduced, rattling percussion section.
Less outwardly evil than ‘Loop de Mer’, it still holds plenty of wayward edginess in its shimmering, narcotic cadences.
Mobilee is sometimes accused of being the stereotypical Berlin minimal label, but when they get it right, the do so in massive style.
Essential for anyone with a taste for the dark side.
