London’s T Bar club closes after police visit
27 April, 2007 | 3.21AMOne of London’s top clubs has voluntarily closed its doors for two weeks in order to improve security, after police caught drug dealers operating inside.
The T Bar in Shoreditch, which was recently voted one of the world’s top 50 clubs by readers of DJ Magazine, decided to close after an undercover police officer posing as a clubber was offered drugs in the venue.
The club, which is housed in a former tea warehouse in the trendy east London district, is a bastion for electronic music and is known for its cutting-edge DJs and underground music policy. Amongst clubbers, it is considered one of the friendliest clubs in the capital.
T Bar’s owners claimed that following the police visit they decided to improve security and subsequently had to close for two weeks to make the necessary changes and refurbish the venue.
The T bar’s managing director Jaime Ritchie told Beatportal: “Despite what you may have read in the Evening Standard [newspaper], we have voluntarily decided to close for two weeks while we improve our anti-crime measures.”
