London breakbeat orchestra return
26 November, 2008 | 10.13AMBreakbeat as a genre lost a lot of momentum a year or two ago, as the scene merged with electro house and a lot of breaks producers started dabbling with 4/4.
The scene failed to attract new blood and a lot of breaks DJs complained there was not enough fresh tunes being made to keep the sound hopping.
But one of the most interesting breaks-related acts to appear during this downtime is the London Breakbeat Orchestra, a 30-piece band who squeeze on stage with violins, violas, cellos, flutes, trumpets and a whole load of instruments to play breakbeat live.
They’ll be performing at London’s Cargo in Shoreditch on Saturday 6th December, and it’s probably one of the only times you’ll be able to wear jeans and a t-shirt, and dance your socks off to an orchestra.
