Beatport Live presents Drop The Lime

Beatport Live presents Drop The Lime

Last Friday, at Beatport’s Denver headquarters, we were fortunate to have New York’s Luca Venezia, aka Trouble & Bass chief Drop The Lime, drop by and knock out a two-hour live broadcast on our Ustream channel.

With his unique style of brash, jacking house music, we caught up with him afterwards to find out what it was like playing the Beatport office. Click through to read the interview and catch the archived show.

Thanks for stopping by Beatport to play for us! What’s it like to play in the Beatport booth, and have you done other live Internet mixes like this?

That was a blast playing on the Funktion One monitors! We tend to have guests over to the Trouble & Bass klubhaus and capture the party and madness with a Ustream session… but besides that, Beatport was the first proper streaming.

Could you tell us a little about your track selection today? How did you pick out tracks for the mix, and what tunes are you particularly feeling right now?

I was just rolling with the punches! I was happy to see people in the office getting down and dancing, so I dropped some of my own tracks and lots of Trouble & Bass tracks, but also the new techno and house I’m feeling at the moment.  Phunk Investigation’s ”1990s” is a big one, really enjoying what 1605 is releasing as far as that stuff goes.

Are there any upfront, unreleased tracks you played that we should be keeping our eyes open for?

Yes! I dropped a remix I did for new artist, Willy Moon. I added my own guitar and made it a spaghetti western techno type of thing. I also dropped some brand new Zombies For Money coming out on Trouble & Bass.

What’s your DJ setup like? Do you play with Traktor, Serato, Ableton, CDJs, or something else?

When I DJ I like to stick with Serato on CDJs and then add vocal touches by singing some random flim flam and released tracks of mine.

For listeners who want to check you out in person, could you tell us about any club residencies you may have, and where you’ll be touring next?

Yes! Ill be hitting Europe to play I Love Techno in November, and other European dates, but lately Ive also been touring with the live band—we’ll be in Australia next for Stereosonic festival end of November. Time to smash!
