Beatport Live presents Soul Clap

Last week, we were thrilled to have Soul Clap stop by our Berlin offices and knock out two hours of their patented megadeep slowhouse R&B luvjams, proving once again why the girls love ‘em and the boys wanna be ‘em.

If you missed the session, fear not: you can catch the whole thing archived here, or posted after the jump, along with an interview with the boys and a top 10 chart featuring gems from their set. Read on!

Thanks for stopping by Beatport to play for us! What’s it like to play in the Beatport booth, and have you done other live Internet mixes like this?

We’ve done a bunch of internet shows, but never with video or so many listeners. It’s pretty funny to have the cameras on you the whole time and adds pressure to be funny.

Could you tell us a little about your track selection today? How did you pick out tracks for the mix, and what tunes are you particularly feeling right now?

Well, we played our latest vinyl buy from Rush Hour Records in Amsterdam and older cuts from our disco bag. We also got into some of our favorite 45s and forgotten house jams. And of course we got into Clap and Wolf + Lamb family exclusives.

Basically we’re just into anything with a fonk on it. It’s like a donk but funky.

Are there any upfront, new or unreleased tracks you played that we should be keeping our eyes open for?

11:11 – “Tourist Trap (Soul Clap + The Family Remix)”
Pillow Talk - “Heaven’s Gate”
The new Juan Maclean album
Metronomy - “Loving Arm (Soul Clap Remix)”
Greg Paulus – “Don’t Explain”
Baby Prince – “I Wanna Squeeze U”

What’s your DJ setup like? Do you play with Traktor, Serato, Ableton, CDJs, or something else?

What about vinyl? Despite what Ritchie Hawtin may say, we still believe wholeheartedly in the power of records and each carry a record bag to all our gigs. We do, however also embrace digital technology and are huge fans of using USB sticks in the CDJ2000s!

For listeners who want to check you out in person, could you tell us about any club residencies you may have, and where you’ll be touring next?

Well, we’re about to take some time off to finish our album, but we’ll maintain a residency the first Saturday of every month at the Electric Pickle in our winter home of Miami. We’re also doing New Year’s Eve there before heading to Asia for three weeks and then South America. Then, next summer we’re kicking off residences at DC10 in Ibiza and Trouw in Amsterdam. Peace and love,
-The Clap
