is universally acknowledged and respected for his A&R skills (over the years his family of labels have been responsible for introducing the world to Akufen, Dominik Eulberg, Alex Under, Dirt Crew and countless more).
But it wasn’t until this year that he really took the plunge and struck out with his own production, notably the gently beautiful ‘Lights In My Eyes’.
It takes a pretty cold heart to not appreciate the power of a good string section, and in this case, it’s the strings that take centre stage - sweeping, elegant and suffused with melancholy as well as brightness.
Both remixes here retain the original’s orchestral manoeuvres, teasing out varying shades of gently hypnotic harmonies that are both aimed directly at emotionally-charged dance floors.
Dominik Eulberg’s version is the fiercer of the two, employing knockabout industrial drums and a churning bottom end to harness the wistful vibes.
It’s exactly the sort of thing you’d expect Eulberg himself to play at some huge European festival as the sun starts to rise and the atmosphere demands something sturdy and driving, yet moving and sensitive.
Relative newcomer Patrice Baumel’s dubbier take is no less impressive, tightening up the snares to razor-sharpness and letting the rolling, booming bass line carry it through.
It’s less big-sounding than Eulberg’s mix, but is ideal for clubbier, more intimate settings.
Another fine slice of Traum-itised techno with a heart of gold.
