Lewie Day grooves with ‘Phasebook EP’
18 April, 2008 | 1.43PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
There’s more mind enveloping sonic textures on offer on Lewie Day’s ‘Captain Haddock’s Phrasebook EP’ via Australia’s EQ [Grey] Recordings.
Of the two cuts on the EP it’s ‘The Thousandth Typhoon’ in particular that really captures the imagination and takes you away into the music.
Already a favourite with Hernan Catteneo and Anthony Pappa, the 808 groove is peppered with short and sharp bass notes, which hurry the building melodies along as pads coax the arrangement and the listener into never neverland.
As to ‘The Blistering Barnacle’, it’s already been called “an intelligent, melodic groover with a breakdown reminiscent of Carl Craig’s style, so who are we to argue?
