Lee Mortimer’s Bass Wobblers

Lee Mortimer’s Bass Wobblers

Modern electro is all about gut wrenching basslines and sub-sonic frequencies. It is a land where characters of the nastiest and most gruesome disposition are worshipped like some sort of weird dystopia, where nice guys die like dogs and bad boys rule the universe.

If what is coming out of the speakers isn’t in-your-face ball-crushing bass, then it might as well be a tea dance for the local girl scouts.

Lee Mortimer [a] wobbles with the best of them. As Britain’s answer to forward-thinking, accessible four-to-the-floor bass music, Mortimer is about as unsavory as they come. Your parents would not be pleased if you cranked anything from his label Wearhouse Music out of your bedroom stereo.

With wild rebellion and neighbour disputes in mind, we asked Morty for eight of his current favorite bass monsters to help all ye who seek dancefloor destruction and dream of punching an old person in the face.

Lee Mortimer & Laidback Luke - Blau! [Fool’s Gold]

Still the biggest track in the bag for me. Every since I heard Crookers drop an early version of this back in the saummer I thought Luke and I had a killer tune on our hands! Definitely my most requested song- “of course I’m going to play it” is the usual response!

Danger - 3h11 [Ekleroshock]

I’ve started a lot of sets with this lately. There’s a nice big string intro to build things up. All of Danger’s track are pretty epic. A top producer.

Foamo - Centavo [Fat! Records]

I don’t remember the last time I would have played a set without something from my good chum Foamo. This is his latest banger that I’m hammering.

AC Slater - Take You (Lee Mortimer Remix) [Trouble & Bass]

I jumped at the chance to do a remix for AC Slater, and this is on Drop The Lime’s wicked label too. I conjured up quite a nice melody on this, juxtaposed of course with some usual heavy bassline action!

Lars Moston & Philipe De Boyar - So Sick (Douster Remix) [Wearhouse Music]

The original of this came out about a year ago but there were no remixes at the time. I always wanted to get some done and I’m really pleased with the way they all turned out. It’s hard to pick a favourite but it may just be this one by Douster.

The Squatters - Monster (Luvstuff Remix) [San City High]

This Luvstuff remix is pretty massive. A trance style breakdown slamming in with a host of bleeps and squeaks that has been going down a storm. Sounds a bit like a combination of Blau! and also ‘Bangkok’ by Boris Dlugosch, which is never a bad thing.

Rusko - Woo Boost (Subskrpt Remix)

I don’t know if Subskrpt wants to remain anonymous so I won’t spill the beans. Taking all the best bits of the original dustup version and conveniently placing them in a 128bpm 4x4 sandwich. Look out for this man and/or woman.

Congorock - Babylon (Dub) [Fool’s Gold]

Fool’s Gold keep on delivering the goods and Congorock always make some serious bangers. The lead synth in this is probably the filthiest thing I’ve heard in a long time.
