Label of the Week: Intimacy

Label of the Week: Intimacy

Paul Woolford’s new label Intimacy [l] has released some quality tech house and quirky techno recently, so it’s Beatportal’s Label of the Week. We caught up with the Leeds-based DJ and producer to find out more about Intimacy.

What’s Intimacy all about?

“Cutting-edge dance music. I’m not going to be too restrictive over our output but there will always be something squarely directed at the dancefloor with every release, along with some more experimental moments.

“We have just begun but I’m in it for the longhaul definitely, there’s no corner-cutting going on here.”

Any hiccups in the first few months?

“Well so far there has been all and sundry telling us not to press vinyl and that it would be financially crippling.

“It is expensive and it’s hard to shift vinyl numbers these days, but at the end of the day I’m not rolling over and giving in.

“The people and the labels that I respect have never had that attitude and I refuse to hold it.”

So why do you love vinyl so much?

“I think vinyl is extremely important. I love vinyl, I love to collect vinyl and there’s nothing better than a fresh copy of a well-designed sleeve with a killer moment contained within.”

But is the digital revolution is important to your label?

“Absolutely imperative - you have to move with the times.”

Which artists and DJs have supported Intimacy [l] so far?

“A cross-section of people are playing our first release the ‘Body Double EP’ including Luciano, Optimo, The Hacker, Justin Robertson, Radio Slave, Kris Needs, Chloe, Ralph Lawson, Funk D’Void, Roman Flugel, Nic Fanciulli and Lee Burridge.”
