Diego Astaiza [Dutchie Music]
4 December, 2007 | 1.52PM- Section: Music Recommendations
This is the debut Dutchie Music release from Columbian upstart Diego Astaiza.
The Miami label could almost be tagged with the term prolific when it comes to its release schedule, so the uncovering of new talent seems essential to its longevity.
Astaiza definitely does not detract from the labels ascertained quality levels on this release, rather moving into the slipstream of what has gone before.
‘La Escala’ is based around a swirling, and in its loosest terms, catchy, synth riff.
A rolling bass-end injects the track with a healthy does of funk that, when paired with the melodic aspects above it, combines for a positive and upbeat little groover.
Apart from some additional percussive touches, the ‘Afterhours Mix’ is not vastly different from the Original.
The main synth line dips in and out for a while in heavily delayed fashion, finally appearing in full along side a beefed up bass line and random vocal mutterings.
The track is taken in a darker, progressive direction on the ‘Leoesco Mix’, particularly in the drums department.
A shadowy array of filtered percussive sounds drive the track forward, moving amongst a solemn assortment of synth tones that compliment the sparkling lead-line from the Original surprisingly well.
Dependable, mid-set fodder all in all.
