Kraftwerk’s Karl Bartos announced as BLOC Weekend headliner

Yes - he was a robot.

Part of the ‘definitive’ Kraftwerk line-up of 1975-1991, Bartos’s live show tops the UK festival’s techno-tastic line up this year, alongside the likes of Dave Clarke, Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance, Joey Beltram, Red Snapper, Amon Tobin and many more.

After 2007’s sold-out success, those BLOC boys are back with a line-up that, for techno-heads at least, is unrivalled by any other festival in the UK.

Taking place in the surreal surroundings of a slightly battered British Holiday Park, the event offers three venues catering variously for fans of dubstep, leftfield electronica, experimental hip-hop and of course, plenty of pounding four-to-the-floor kickdrums.

It’s a musical formula that BLOC supremos George Hull and Alex Benson refined after a few years knocking around underground clubnights they were putting on in Norfolk and Brighton, but the pair are hardly jaded acid house veterans.

Both just 24 years of age, they’ve managed to pull off a feat that many thought was an impossibility, and quickly made BLOC a near-essential fixture on the techno calendar in the process.

Highlights are numerous, but Beatportal is particularly looking forward to Underground Resistance’s all-live ensemble, Black Dog’s high-end headiness, Juan Atkins’ Motor City soul, and minimal dub-tronics from the Modern Love crew.

Throw in a celebrity go-kart competition, a 72-hour licence, and the very unique sense of pandemonium that only festival in a Pontins Holiday Park can bring, and you have the recipe for a BLOC-ing good weekend.
