King Roc’s new label finally online - get ready for the Mutual Society
21 February, 2008 | 10.37AMIt’s part Twin Peaks, part Pink Floyd - King Roc’s new album project and label is a collaboration between the UK musician and Australian visual artist Seb Godfrey of Drunkpark.
Five EPs are planned, then an album called ‘Chapters’ late in 2008.
With raves from Chloe to Lee Burridge to Will Saul to Jamie Jones, the EPs present quite a different, not always dance oriented face to one of the UK’s biggest European musicians.
“The EPs,” explain King Roc
, “run the spectrum from ambient to the melodic techno I am better known for. But for the album, the tracks from each EP will be chopped and changed into different genres and live versions - no song will be untouched and the final album will be radically different to the original songs”.
Chapter 1, the Lunaris EP, is now on Beatport and Chapter 2, Communique, is out soon on vinyl. With raves from Chloe to Lee Burridge to Will Saul to Jamie Jones, Lunaris, says King Roc, is about the world of patterns and cycles - from the rotation of our planet around our sun and the moon around us, to the routines of when we eat, sleep, work and play.
“Day-by-day, we live in patterns, structured and repetitive. But it’s the random event within the cycle that have the greatest affect on our lives. This can come from meeting a person who ends up having a big influence on your life, to the personal experiences we have that inspire us and which drive us to create.
“Does everything that got us to this point depend purely on the fluke and coincidence? From the monumental creation of the universe and our planet, to a smaller but equally important event like how our parents met. Or is there some sort of pattern for it all? Do we believe in fate and destiny? Or is it really just because of chance events that anything is here at all? So we wonder…”
