King Midas Sound: Documentary Part 1
King Midas Sound: Documentary Part 1
29 September, 2011 | 5.46AMKevin Martin describes his group King Midas Sound as “like some crazy, psychedelic Benetton advert, made up of someone from Trinidad, Scotland and Japan.” The Benetton reference is most likely tongue-in-cheek, but the psychedelic descriptor is spot-on. Together, members Martin (aka grime/dancehall producer The Bug), Roger Robinson and Kiki Hitomi have come up with a twisted take on bass malaise and ambient dub that sounds like nothing else out there.
Following last year’s album Waiting for You, on Hyperdub, they’re about to release a collection of radical reworks by the likes of Gang Gang Dance, Flying Lotus, Nite Jewel, Hype Williams, Cooly G, Kode9 and others. The teaser EP featuring Kuedo and Mala is out now; check it out on Beatport here, and keep reading to watch the video for Kuedo’s remix.
