Kenny Larkin returns to Movement with a new album on Planet E

After a four year album hiatus, Kenny Larkin releases ‘Keys, Strings and Tambourines’ on Carl Craig’s Planet E Communications — and Beatportal has a preview of its sound.

It’s a fitting pairing, as the two DJs and producers are credited as being a part of what’s called “the second wave” of Detroit techno, following the genre’s founding fathers.

Both Carl Craig and Kenny Larkin perform at this weekend’s Movement: Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival.

The album, set to be released on July 1st, blends his signature soulful house sounds with a classic techno twist.

Kenny Larkin has released music primarily under his own name and as Dark Comedy — with “Comedy” being a reference to another artist form in which he participates at his current Los Angeles home: stand-up comedy.

Larkin visited Carl Craig and his studio during the recording because, as he says, “Nothing can top the type of inspiration I get from being in a proper studio environment in Detroit.”

Larkin has been kind enough to share a preview with Beatportal of the introduction to ‘Keys, Strings and Tambourines’.

Look for the first single from the album, ‘You Are’, on Beatport in the near future.

For those at Movement, there’s a good chance you’ll catch some more of this anticipated release during his set.
