Keep an eye on Kasper Bjørke
27 January, 2010 | 9.55AMThere’s a fair amount of swooning going on in the blogosphere at the moment, over Kasper Bjørke’s forthcoming sophomore album ‘Standing On Top Of Utopia’.
Due for release on the label Hfn on 15th February, the Copenhagen-based artist’s longplayer will be the first artist album on the label, which had an impressive maiden voyage last year with Trentemøller’s much-admired ‘Harbour Boat Trips’ mix.
The album’s second single ‘Alcatraz’ has just dropped with some rather tasty dancefloor mixes, and follows the magnificent first single ‘Young Again’ (video above) which was released in October to widespread applause.

Lift off: Kasper Bjørke
Featuring Jacob Bellens on vocals, the playful ‘Alcatraz’ spooks and delights in equal measure, with Bjørke’s masterful piano laden grooves contrasting wonderfully with lines about ghosts, children, and love.
Whilst the original offers something close to pop exuberance, DJs will be pleased to note there’s a good stock of club mixes to choose from, including a stripped back electro house version from Londoner’s Zombie Disco Squad, a euphoric nu disco remix from Kenton Slash Demon (best known for their work with Danish indie band When Saints Go Machine), and two dubs from Jimpster.
With excellent club remixes and lush video work - ‘Young Again’ was directed by Karim Huu Do - Kasper Bjørke could become one of the year’s biggest indie-dance crossover success stories. Keep an eye on him.
