Onur Ozer [Vakant]

Onur Ozer [a] is living proof of techno’s boast to being finally a global sound.

Born and raised in Istanbul, he’s been a mainstay for Vakant [l], one of minimal techno’s finest labels of this decade.

His new album is a mirage of shifting soundscapes, jazzy electronic tones, funk fueled beats and trippy melodies.

Tracks like ‘Traumbone’ or ‘Eclipse’ mix organic instruments with electronic percussive trickery to create a delicate mix of confusion and melody.

Vakant first kicked into life by unearthing Alex Smoke in 2004 with his ‘Simple Things EP’.

After two albums, Alex has since gone onto become one of techno’s brightest new visionaries, as well as a regular contributor to the Vakant release schedule.

Similarly, Onur has already released three EPs since his first ‘Envy’ in 2005.

All earmark as a producer that likes to think outside of the techno box, a prestige that puts him in the same field as electronic mavericks like Ricardo Villalobos earned by a dedication to taking the longer, more interesting route to making dance music.

‘Kasmir’ won’t keep the mainstream minimal fans who usually worship the likes of Sven Väth happy.

But for lovers of techno that attempts to update the system, it’s a gratifying window into the future.
