KAB brings the noise with ‘Welcome the Heat’
4 November, 2007 | 9.18PMSpace House meets Alien Funk as Novamute’s Old Skool KAB
brings the noise.
14 years ago, the Railyard Boyz encountered Novamute’s huge hit ‘The Gateway’ by Karl Axel Bissler (AKA KAB).
Since the discovery, his unique flavor has resonated with them ever since, up to his new release, ‘Welcome The Heat’.
Karl’s addition to the Railyard crew comes on the heels of a reinvigorated batch of studio work with the extraordinary Minilogue, along with a slew of releases on such labels as WIR, Feed Me, Autobahn and the classic Azurite.
Gaining massive support across the board from press and DJs alike, Karl Axel Bissler’s newest single provides a unique glimpse into the narcotic soundscapes that only KAB can create.
The lead off track “HEAT” is a taste of cutting edge, pure hypnotic techno. Mysterious, deep and sexy...it fuses constant moaning with random filtered vocal samples, rough textured drums and a bassline that drop kicks your chest with a morbid punch.
“WELCOME” slows the tempo a bit but continues to warp the mind with twisted noises and organic oddities. Huge in scope, it breathes and expands...a genuine old skool psychedelic dub that builds constantly with wet wonky noises and trademark vocal cuts. The experience culminates in a world of monster fx modulations...an original tripped-out journey you’ll wish never ends. Grab a blunt or some hits of whatever melts your noodle, and prepare for a cerebral workout with KAB’s magic touch…
Here is what the press and media say about KAB’s newest work:
PRESS SUPPORT:
JAMES MOWBRAY / MIXMAG / Four:/Twenty - Swede Karl Axel Bissler has been been releasing music since the mid-90s. Lead cut ‘Heat’ is a deep, atmospheric, sort-after track that’s been around for a while for the well-connected, but is finally getting a release on the excellent Railyard label. It’s a hypnotic groove that’s surrounded by distant vocal snippets and muffled chants and screams. It’s intense and dark. ‘Welcome’ on the B-side is less sinister, but still moody and flooded with static and an underlying bed of white noise. Lost vocal transmissions weave in and out of the beats, underpinned by a dub-reggae-style bass. One for fans of Basic Channel and speaker-shaking sub-basslines. 4 out of 5
KAI 1 / iDJ Magazine - ‘Heat’ is a dark and brooding slice of tech-house that has mysterious whispering vocals in the background to keep you entertained while the rhythm bubbles along. It’s incredibly well put together and will be of use to any fans of the softer side of techno.
LEE SMITH / iDJ Magazine - NYC’s Railyard seem to have a bit of a thing for the Swedes, with recent releases from Cari Lekebusch and Joel Mull displaying their predilection rich, tonal techno and reduced space-house. They continue the alliance here with WIR producer and friend of Minilogue KAB, who blends ultra-deep vibes with slow, strong four-four kicks on this tasty two tracker. ‘Heat’ is the more dancefloor orientated of the pair, but the 118 bpm lurch of ‘Welcome’ is just as satisfying.
DEREK TAYLOR / M8 MAGAZINE - Two outstanding tracks!! Very deep, and very effective! ‘Welcome’ is an ideal set starter while ‘Heat’ will be ideal from moving from warm-up to mid-set.
DJ REVIEWS:
AKUFEN - I’ve been listening to the KAB ep on Rallyard over and over, it’s brilliant I love it. I really fancy that deep dark house shit, I’m the six o’clock dj type you know ha ha!
GREGOR TRESHOR / COCOON - Another bomb from Railyard while I am still playing out Space Suite, “Heat” is the one for me here, charted on #5 in my August Top Ten.
ALEX SMOKE / SOMA / VAKANT - quite like this.....rough in a good way. Some subtle acid touches and some old school use of drums....it’s very good.
PHILIP SHERBURNE / EARPLUG/ EMUSIC/ URGE/ PITCHFORK - Yes yes yes! Very nice. Love the dirty, vintage feel of “Welcome,” and I love the gnarly sub-bass. Great stuff, perfect for early in the set. Dammit, one more reason I need to invest in Traktor Scratch. I quite like “Heat” as well—again, it’s dark, dirty, and ominous as hell, restrained in scope but still quietly nutso.
JEREMY P CAULFIELD / DUMB UNIT - nice dark motion sensor tech!
JUSTIN DRAKE / PEACE DIVISION / NRK - really like both tracks but especially WELCOME, they’re quite niiiiice.
LUCIANO ESSE / FABRIC - played at Space, Ibiza and it really work good!!!
AUDIOFLY / SLEEPERTHIEF / LOOSE LIPS - nice release from kab on railyard… especially love side the deep, dark and tracky vibes. THANKS. :)
CHRIS FORTIER / FADE - been playing since WMC Miami. Fantastic deep excursion.
ANDREW GRANT / CIRCO LOCO / DC10 - Charted in my top 5!!
GRZEGORZ DEMIANCZUK / 3 CHANNELS / CROSSTOWN REBELS - really nice AND different oldschool atmosphere! 3 channels voitek
