K Scope gets minimal and Urban Soul has a good time
6 December, 2007 | 1.03PMRemember the first time you heard ‘French Kiss’ and were so totally and utterly drawn into the hypnotic rambling bass that regardless of how monotonous it was you knew you’d never tire of it?
Well Eric Kupper
and his K-Scope alter-ego obviously does as he takes all those elements for ‘Elektrikiss’ to create a burbling offering not a million miles removed from the aforementioned that will work away at you till you succumb.
It’s also a lot more soulful then the aforementioned Lil’ Louis anthem with Rhodes replacing the electronica of yesteryear.
The Nite Grooves release is complimented with the equally slick, but far more minimal sounding ‘Faith Healer’.
With its quirky electro-etched grooves and bouncing basslines, comparisons are already being made to M.A.N.D.Y. & Booka Shade’s ‘Body Language’.
Meanwhile on Nite Grooves’ sister label, King Street Sounds, their most consistent and spiritually blessed artist, Roland Clark and his Urban Soul alias, returns with another deeply hypnotic swingin’ jazz-house delight.
‘Have A Good Time’ with its hooky “stomp, shake and have a good time” hook is a rallying cry to party and let loose.
Kinda vintage old school dance in the ‘I Got My Mind Made Up’ or ‘Jingo’ feel-good mould.
More edifying contemporary beats of a deeper nature come from Mr. V in his Sole Channel guise, while the 5 Beats mix (named after the Paris / NYC party with Franck Roger & Alix Alvarez) is a useful stripped down shoo-be-doo bumpin’ dub.
