Joris Voorn destroys Movement 2008

After the jump there’s a video of Dutch techno DJ Joris Voorn [a] destroying the Beatport stage at Movement 2008.

His set was the best set of Movement 2008 so far, and clearly from the video the crowd thinks so too.

After he finished spinning Joris revealed to Beatportal that he almost didn’t make it to Movement 2008 because the airport cops gave him a lot of hassle.

“They didn’t believe that I wasn’t going to play,” Joris told Beatportal.

“They took me into a back room, and started asking me lots of questions.”

“Because I have a big passport with so many stamps in it they knew that I traveled a lot and I accidentally told them I play abroad a lot as a DJ.

“I don’t have a US work visa obviously, so I had to pretend I wasn’t coming here to perform.”

In the end (luckily for the techno fans at Movement 2008) Joris Voorn made it in.

But his hassles are just the tip of the iceberg, when it comes to the issue of DJs spinning abroad.

Yes they are coming to ‘work’, but they’re only coming to play a few records, so it’s totally impractical to get a work visa, and a bit stupid that the government authorities expect a DJ to get a work visa or performing artist visa for just a couple of hours.

We live in a globalised world. Isn’t it about time governments came up with a sensible visa policy for the globalised workforce?

What do you think?
