John Tejada Tech Talk
16 August, 2010 | 5.41AMFinally out via Beatport today, Brauns & Wagner’s ‘1974’ is a fine slice of Hamburg deep house, with amazing remixes from Jeff Bennett
and John Tejada
.
John’s all-too-rare remixes are much anticipated by his legions of fans, and SOUNDZ were over the moon when he not only reported that he loved ‘1974’, but was up for remixing it.
He reveals just how he goes about his art in this exclusive tech talk. A brief insight into the mind of one of the world’s finest exponents of electronic music…
“I created the ‘1974’ remix by grabbing all the sounds from the original that I wanted to use and throwing those into the EXS sampler in Logic,” says John.
“From then on I’m using my hardware instruments to re-interpret parts. Some synthesizers used were the studio electronics code, which provide a doubling of the chord as well as a sort of arpeggio in the main remix.
“The bassline is taken care of by a Moog Voyager but is replaced on the dub by 2 Roland SH-101s doubling themselves to provide a layered modulating bass.
“The CV being sent to them is being processed by my Modular system which makes it sound as if I had Nova mods done to the 101, a great way to add the modded sound without drilling into your precious vintage gear. The Serge VCS provides the CV modulation in this case.
“After tracking all this experimentation to audio tracks, the music is mixed and ready to be recorded. The output stage in my rig is multiple audio outputs going into a SPL Mixdream Summing amp which then goes 2 channel into a SSL G series bus compressor which gets recorded analog back into Apogee hardware.
“This is my process where analog meets the best of digital.” John Tejada – July 2010
