It’s almost a bit of a cliché for people to visit Japan nowadays and make a tune called ‘Japan’ after their experiences.
Interestingly, though, all these tunes sound different, which suggests that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.
Unfortunately, the track names here are devoid of any real wit – we have ‘Sushi In S-Major’ and ‘Wasabi On Top’.
That’s like a Japanese guy visiting London and making a pair of tunes called ‘Fish ‘n’ Chips in F-Major’ and ‘Ketchup On Top’.
Anyways, ‘Sushi In S-Major’ is a trancey electro house track, with a persistent, hi-pitch, echoey melody that is good for the deeper dance floors and sounds nice on a phat system.
‘Wasabi’ on top is very different – a driving, head-nodding track with subtle, syncopated percussive elements.
The bassline is seriously cool, and plays out underneath some pokey techno stabs.
The best bit about ‘Wasabi On Top’ is the retro 1980s LFO synth at the end of every few phrases – it works amazingly well and promotes this track from being simply good to great.
The build-up takes you really high too – it kind of drifts into infinity and then comes back in proper.
Suddenly, ‘Wasabi On Top’ all makes sense – the name isn’t so cheesy when you pair it with the great sounds it serves up – so make sure you order this from the Beatport download menu.
