Japan: Ricardo Villalobos to close the 10th Wire Festival this weekend

It’s a busy time of the year for techno heads in Japan.

Every year, once you recover from Metamorphose, it’s followed by the biggest indoor techno rave in the country, Wire.

To many, it’s the last blast that symbolises the end of summer.

Having started in ‘99, the event usually draws about 15,000 to 18,000 people, and this year it celebrates the 10th anniversary with a slew of both Japanese and international talent, from very underground to very well known.

Wire ‘08 is taking place at Yokohama Arena on Saturday, August 30th.

The event is organised and programmed by Japan’s ultimate techno schemer Takkyu Ishino (of Denki Groove), and he is an expert at combining the most popular with the most cutting edge of electronic dance music.

As a result, you will find an interesting mixture of people in the huge arena coming together under a gigantic mirror ball - everybody from Denki Groove fanatics to hardcore ravers to techno geeks (whose only night out is Wire every year).

You will also find the sound systems and the acoustics of the venue surprisingly good for its size.

This year will feature Ricardo Villalobos [a] to close the event in the main arena, and Fumiya Tanaka [a] to play before him.

Hugely popular Ishino himself will also DJ in the main room, as well as he performs live as Denki Groove [a].

Ken Ishii, too, is on the roster, and so are the acts such as Ellen Allien, A Guy Called Gerald, Len Faki, Alter Ego, Marco Bailey, Superpitcher, Burger/Voigt, Rex The Dog and many many more.

For details, check out the official English Wire08 site.
