Donnacha Costello has long been recognised as one of Ireland’s premier techno masters, and this spine-tingling double header confirms that he’s still way ahead of the pack.

In an age where techno producers seem happy to churn out countless sound-a-like tracks to keep their name in the headlines, Donnacha’s refreshingly sporadic release schedule shows that he’d rather bide his time until he’s got something special to offer - which both tracks here most certainly are.

Originally coming to prominence through his classic, Reich-inspired super-minimalism on the legendary Force Inc. imprint, recent years have seen Donnacha and his acclaimed Minimise label focus on more club-friendly sounds.

His ‘Colours’ series of singles was re-released last year to huge acclaim, showcasing Costello’s inimitable flair for elegant sound design and richly-rendered tones.

Similarly, his floor-rocking ‘6x6’ series stood head and shoulders above the glut of driving percussive minimal being churned out at the time.

This time round, Costello has utilised the same syrupy synth riff in two contrasting contexts.

‘It Simply Is’ is a lush, beatless drifter, while ‘Trust’ is a genuinely jaw-dropping slice of pristine dancefloor power, apparently made with just one synth, an 808 and a sprinkling of FX.

Both, as you’d expect, are simply awesome.
