D.I.M. [BoysNoize Records]
5 March, 2008 | 3.57PM- Section: Music Reviews
BoysNoize are famed for serving up stonking electro house treats, and this effort doesn’t disappoint.
Built around a haunting, pitch-screwed, hi-octave “It’s you!” female vocal, the original mix then progresses into this hard-edged, bitcrushed build-up, and finally to a devastating drop that is made up of a stripped-down beat and giant bassline.
The vocals then cleverly flit back and forth into the soundscape in increasingly inventive ways, cementing this release as essential.
Techno heads take note, this release also comes with a techno mix courtesy of Brodinski.
It’s a very energetic affair – this one – with its heavily resonant, and persistent, synthy experimentations always up in your ear.
Think 303 bass machines and you’ll have a good idea of the style of this remix.
It’s nicely dynamic, building big and then falling apart in seamless fashion.
The resonant vibe continues with the samples and effects in the mix, which makes everything sound cold and brittle but also captivating.
Could do with a bit more bass, though!
