Interview with Mr. Musical Madness: Marcel Woods

It are exciting times for Marcel Woods [a]. The man known for singles like ‘Advanced’, ‘Inside Me’ and ‘The Bottle’ to name but a few, has a bunch of tricks up his sleeves the coming period. We talk with him about his forthcoming collaboration with the world’s biggest DJ, Tiësto. And we also talk about the 3rd installment of his Music Madness compilation forthcoming in April and last but not least his new single ‘Champagne Dreams’ which is out as of this week.

Big news; you’ve just done a collaboration with Tiësto. How did this came together and who’s idea was it to work together on a track?
Tiësto approached me as he loved my music and he asked me if we could do something together.
So you can imagine that I played Mr. hard to get and refused at first. Asked him if he could send some of his work as I did not know him that much… haha…. ;-) To be honest it was a honor to work with him and he’s a funny guy, but he knows what he want in the studio, that’s for sure.

First up is your new release on High Contrast Recordings [l], ‘Champagne Dreams’, which just came out this week. How did you came up with this title?
I just love Champagne when I DJ, so this little beast needed a title, so that’s it…:-)

You never really had people remixing your tracks, but off lately you released a remix package for your single ‘Tomorrow’ and now W&W did remix your new single ‘Champagne Dreams’. Any special reason for having artists remixing your tracks nowadays?
With Tomorrow it came up in my mind that I have so many guys asking me if they could remix my music, so I agreed as I want to push new talents. So that’s why we had such a massive package of remixes on the Tomorrow track. W&W is a whole different story, these guys loved this track from the moment I played it on Trance Energy 2009, so nobody else could do this better then W&W… Massive talented guys and they definitely have a bright future ahead of them!

Where do you find your inspiration to create new tracks?
From DJ-ing, listening to all types of music, etc etc… It comes and it goes. But lucky enough it’s a never-ending stream of idea’s that’s coming my way. Especially as I’m very open minded in music I don’t feel myself a prisoner of a certain style.

Could you describe your sound for someone who never heard Marcel Woods [a] play?
Music is something you need to listen to, not to talk about! So that’s the one and only important rule…. Haha!

What is your opinion about the social media nowadays? Do you use social media like twitter and facebook?
Yes I use it, I must say I like Twitter as it’s more instant messaging what you’re doing at that moment, but facebook is ( in my eyes) just another website/portal…
But it’s very important in an artists career.

There is a new Musical Madness compilation coming up in April, what can we expect from this compilation?
Hopefully a lot undiscovered music, but I’m collecting music at this moment, so we will see what I come up with. But I have to say, there is so much good music at the moment! So definitely some quality tunes from my label Musical Madness [l] and my new label “Trouse records”. I haven’t decided yet, but disc 2 will probably be a collection of my own tunes, so stay tuned to www.marcelwoods.com to stay up to date! :-)

What is your current Top 5?
Join one of my gigs and I will play them for you… :-)

Which new artist is one to watch for 2011?
W&W did already a great job, but in 2011 these guys will break on a international scale to the rest of the world!!!

Marcel Woods his latest release ‘Champagne Dreams’ is out now on High Contrast.
