Interview with Linda O:
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Queens and raised in Queens until I was 8 yrs old.
My dad wanted to move to Long Island for the sake of a better environment and school district so he moved us to Mineola and then again to Levittown.
At what age did you first start singing?
I started singing at 4 years old.
What style would you say your music can be compared to?
My style can be compared to Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Danni Minogue, iio, Rockell.
Tell us about your backround as an artist.
I was in chorus all of grade school and all throughout junior high.
I also played the flute for 6 years.
It wasn’t until after high school I decided to pursue singing.
I began taking voice lessons w/ Lenny Colletti at age 18 and about 6 months later landed myself a job at a record company and recording studio.
My experience at the record company led me into the studio recording demos for movie/music productions & recording demos of my own.
I was always surrounded by music day and night and I trained every week at my vocal coach’s home studio for 4 years.
If I wasn’t at the studio singing, or out at a karaoke bar singing, I was home singing.
I set up a small studio at home where I could practice and record.
While studying w/ my vocal coach he formerly managed dinner shows including singers to come out and entertain.
This was a great opportunity to get in front of a crowd and get the experience I needed and so I did and I went on to perform at many venues and events.
The more I did the more it became my own and the more I wanted to do.
In 05’ I began studying w/ Don Lawrence and continued on for a year.
All of our sessions were recorded and I continue to practice w/ his tapes.
His training really helped me open up my range dramatically.
What are your most prized accomplishments?
Making it on the radio!
Recording great songs such as, ‘Because The Night’, ‘Wherever You Are’, ‘Rescue Me’, ‘Lullabye’… making a debut on a compilation album for Hed Kandi Winter Chill 2005.
Composing my own production variety show which concluded music from Grease, Chicago, Suddenly Seymour, Les Miserables and brought in other bands in the show.
Unite in Fashion Performance and of course my performance at Whitehouse for Mega Jam!
What are looking to do different in the music industry that will set you apart from others?
I want to bring theatre into my performance and into my vocals.
Last, how do you feel about the music scene in America?
The music scene in America is very difficult and a little wacky and it’s mostly because this world is pretty wacky but it’s cool. Music today is just a break down of genres in the past and then some.
You have a taste of everything.
