Andre, are you a full time artist and DJ?
“Yes but I have few other jobs which give me energy. I’m a sound and light engineer and I work with handicapped people in institutions for the disabled.
“I also run music projects with kids from the streets, helping them to produce, and I teach them how to spin records and learn about electronic music.”
How long have you been a DJ and producer?
“I have been on and off the turntables for over 13 years.
“My roots go back to my school years in 1994/1995, when I started spinning acid house and early techno music.
“In 1995 I started to work as DJ Phrase and played all over Germany.
“Later I changed my sound and my DJ name - André Kronert was born.”
Tell us more about Neurotron.
“My partner Axel Schuh and me were both born in 1978 in Guestrow, a small, very old city in the north east of Germany.
“Since school we hung around together and developed our love for electronic music by hearing EBM, industrial, experimental and acid house and really hard techno.
“After many great and wonderful parties and moments with this music we decided to produce such music by ourselves.
“In 1995/96 we bought a Roland MC-202 and a 606.
“A little later we purchased a 909 and a whole depot of synthesizers, effect tools and samplers and started to perform live gigs as Yakusa.
“Initially the sound was really hard grooving Detroit techno, influenced by artists like Plastikman, UR, Cybotron, Stacey Pullen and Aphex Twin.
“Later we begun to use laptops and combined them with the hardware of our studio.
“Under increasing influences from labels like Force Tracks, Raum Musik , Basic Channel, Poker Flat, Deep Chord and Plus8 our sound became more dubby, deep and minimal.
“With the change of our sound, our attitude of life and of music we changed our name to Neurotron
.
“In 2001/2002 we started to produce and dive into more projects with networks around the world.
“At the end of 2003 we started our own label Neurotron Music
.
“In 2006 Neurotron got nominated for a Qwartz electronic music award in Paris together with artists like Trentemøller and Paul Kalkbrenner.
“Neurotron has more than 20 releases out and tons of remixes on different labels.”
What is the definition of Neurotron?
“The harmonious connection between human nerves and electronic physics.
“The result: a positive change of perception by electronics.
“When live this is reflected by us and transferred to the audience.”
You also run Night Drive Music
.
“Yes, I started Night Drive Music in 2003.
“The sound is very deep, minimal and harmonic with international artists.
“Like a beautiful night drive on a wonderful blue night.
“Today there are four labels who belong to Night Drive Music.
“They are well known for their deep dancing tunes.
“We have no definition of styles for these labels.
“We need to like the music and the music needs to make us happy.”
What are the names of the labels?
“2600 Records, 3rd Wave Music, Night Drive Music, Neurotron Music”
