Inside The Mind: Tom Budden

Inside The Mind: Tom Budden

Sometimes a little luck is all a person needs to break out of the murky waters where countless aspiring DJs and bedroom producers struggle to get noticed. For Southampton, England’s Tom Budden, all it took was some friendly DJ support from Richie Hawtin [a] to thrust his name into the limelight. His track ‘The Tree Dance’ became a massive chart-topping hit, all thanks to the viral support via Twitter from Mr. Hawtin himself. Once word was out that Richie was rocking his tune, everyone took notice and everything took off.

While the support of the worlds best DJ’s is a helpful means to building a profile in the music marketplace, the truth is that Tom Budden’s tracks have been of the utmost quality, and that’s what really matters. A deeper, trackier side of the tech house sound is his forte, with steady grooves, punchy drums, and warm melodies as constant characteristics. Equally impressive is his Alive Recordings label, which has been growing stronger and stronger with each new release, featuring a growing roster of new and familiar names such as Jim Rivers [a], Arnaud Le Texier [a], Onno [a] and more.

Just returning from the mega-festival known as Glastonbury, we were able to pick at the few remaining festival damaged brain cells from Tom, which you can find after the jump.
