Inside Latin America: The future of trance - Part I
5 August, 2008 | 10.42AM- Section: Music News
We all know these “trance is dead” discussions have taken everybody by surprise, considering that few years ago big names like Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, and Paul van Dyk were considered dance heroes and the future of trance music.
But are they still?
During the last year, some have been saying, “Trance didn’t evolve as it was supposed to,” due to the curious rise of genres like minimal, tech-house, and why not, a mix of both.
So, to help clearing the issues, here’s how a duo has been pushing forward Latin America’s dance scene over the last six years.
Diego Gomez and Fernan “Boom” Cardona, mostly known as DC Project, are one of today’s most respected and requested artists rising from Colombia.
Perhaps it’s due to their unique ability to mix romantic, melancholic, and melodic sounds with the heavy, danceable beat trance music has.
Having been numerous times catalogued as “the future of trance music,” Diego and Fernan are few of the Latin American artists that have been supported by the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, and Mike Harrington, to name but a few.
“Their music has no limits. What they do is a futuristic, high-quality, forward-thinking combination,” says Mike Harrington.
“Mi Cuarto Azul,” as they call their production and mastering studio in Medellin, Colombia, is just another room that opens for them the gateway to becoming some of the most talented trance musicians all over the world.
“DC Project is for sure the most talented undiscovered duo out there. Their music is just not to dance, it’s to admire how brilliant two musicians can be,” says Diego Orjuela, the co-founder and CEO of Alicia Music Group.
While in Colombia these “DC Beatz” appearances continue being some of the most requested in the country, with lots of labels from France, the U.S., and Italy continuing to request the duo to remix all kinds of music.
“Yes, they’re trance, but they have no limits when it comes to remixing.”
The truth, after all, is that beyond our eyes, and far away from our appreciation of what trance is all about in Latin America, there’s a duo working on their next release while discovering what few have discovered.
Make sure to keep an eye on their forthcoming releases on Navigation, Converge, Alicia, Overline, Istmo, and Unlove.
