Last Friday we have released our first artist album on AUTIST. it is entitled “The Autistic Disco” and is produced by Niko Schwind. I had a little chat with Niko the other day about his production techniques and some more.
Do you have a favourite song on “The Autistic Disco” ?
I think “Fly” is my favourite song on the album because there is so much emotion in this song. i created this song in a stage of an immense heartsickness and producing music helped me to handle the situation and helped to express these feelings.
How long does it usually take you to produce a song and what element do you normally start with to build a song ?
well, the time it takes to produce a song is different with every new song. sometimes i manage to write a song in one single day, while sometimes it takes three days, and another time i need more then a week… so it ..s very different every time.
However the kickdrum and the bassline are the first elements i start the production of a new song with.
Is there any advice you would like to give to the people out there who just start producing tracks ?
i would say there is no panacea of course, but i have been figuring out that persistance and efforts pay out eventually. everybody experiences music in a different way and it takes a while to adopt the techniques of transcribing a musical idea thats in your mind into a sequencer program.
What equipment did you use to produce this album ?
Computer: i use a desktop pc with a Adlon 4600 dual core cpu + 2 gb of ram
Sequencer: mainly Ableton Live and occasionally Reason via re-wire
Soundcard: M-Audio firewire 410
Speakers: Fostex pm 0.5
Masterkeyboard: Edirol usb-keyboard
Headphones: AKG studio headphones
Additional outboard gear: UAD-1 dsp card with PCIe connector
Most featured plugin on the album: Oxford EQ and Pultec EQ
most (ab)used drug during the production of the album: i dont comrehend this question :)
