When you’re faced with the realisation that this release is essentially a bunch of Linkin Park ‘Numb’ remixes, you may be forgiven for thinking that it might be a bit of a cash in.

What did you think of the Jay-Z ‘Encore’ / ‘Numb’ collaboration?

The truth is, that this is an essential electro house production.

The original mix by Fuzzy Hair and Rock Da World features the said vocals, complete with uplifting strings.

As the chorus dissipates and the verse comes in, strings evolve into layers of warm, meaningful chords.

Approaching a crescendo, tight, funky beats kick off, complemented by subtle vocal stabs.

Then, silence.

When you hear a panned drum roll you’d better be ready for the cheekiest, minimal electro house arrangement you’ve heard in months.

The effects and rhythmic samples are a delight to hear, making ‘In The End’ a modern-sounding and prime example of addictive dance music.

The placement of bleepy stabs will have anyone listening dancing around with a comical grin on their face.

Mazzali and Orlandi‘s remix is very, very faithful to the aforementioned, but its deep, dubby bassline concocts something with a darker tinge, a slightly more underground feel.

Robbie Rivera serves up two mixes – the curiously-titled ‘Juicy Tribal Mix’ and ‘Juicy Miami Mix’ – where the former is house and the other electro styled.

The Miami mix is completely different from any other work on this release.

It’s a detuned, dark 4/4 pulser, and as such, when its upbeat lyrics come in they seem peripheral to everything else.

As soon as Rivera’s mix slams back, the vocals deteriorate into a miasma of sound, coaxing everything further into darkness.

Finally, DJ Rooster and Sammy Peralta unleash a lurching, mechanical mix boasting buckets of personality.

It has all the right ingredients to have underground dance fans dribbling at the mouth.
