Illusive releases ‘Do Your Own Thing EP’

With a quartet of acclaimed EPs already to its name, Soul Life Recordings reaches number five with Illusive’s must-hear ‘Do Your Own Thing EP’.
Disco house at its best, ‘Do Your Own Thing’ starts off in style with a terrific chunky groove that rides the disco rocket to the heady days of yore whilst retaining a very ‘now’ feel in the process.
‘The Latin Episode’, as the name implies, is a fine example of Latin-house typified with sun-drenched vocals and rhythms that ooze Cuban passion.
It’s a shame then that it arrived just in time for Ibiza’s closing — and not opening — parties.
Things close out with my personal favourite, ‘Speed Of Life’ – a beautiful modern day sounding Mediterranean dancer has all the warmth of the midday sun, yet the coolness of the ocean’s breeze.
Naggingly familiar swing piano chords, Latin percussion and studio savvy fuse into one to create an essential for those into the sun-kissed sounds of the Balearics.
